Styling Scandinavian Design Classics With Amara

Posted on March 27, 2018 by millergrey

buy Arava Canada online This is a sponsored post produced in collaboration with Amara.     Styling and the process involved in creating an image has always been what I enjoy the most about working on the blog. When I decided to leave London and head back to the North East I left behind a job where doing just […]

I heard you thought you had better Christmas cards than me. That’s cute.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Merry Christmas from The Holiday Armadillo.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
A cosy, pine-scented night in with a stack of Christmas cards and a boozy coffee.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Initially kindly gifted by @papier followed by an awful lot more being purchased due to their sheer immensity.

Instagram post 17900346943409091 Ad | If you’ve been with me a while you’ll know that when it comes to my annual Christmas wrapping blog I have always had one piece of advice. Scotch Tape. Always, always @3m.uk Scotch Tape. It’s your secret weapon.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This year I’m taking that advice to the next level, collaborating with Scotch Tape to help with some festive wrapping conundrums and hopefully deliver a spot of gift wrapping inspiration. #ScotchChristmas.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
1. Let’s start with something fancy. We’re going Double-Sided. Take your wrapping to advanced levels with a bold half-and-half design, easily created by folding your papers and sticking it down with Double-Sided Tape. Apply to the back of your preferred ribbon and stick down smoothly. Double-Sided is a minimalist’s best friend.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
2. So your wrapping paper has a glossy sheen to it? No problem, we’ve got you covered. GiftWrap Tape has a soft satin-like finish, so it’ll blend into the surface of the paper easily. I invite you to spot it. I can’t even spot it and I put it there. Finish with a bauble or two.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
3. If your paper has a matte finish to it, then Magic Tape is your best friend. The smooth surface blends in discretely with your paper, and best of all? If you find yourself in a tape tiz and misplace your scissors you can simply tear it. Perfect for brown paper packages, tied up with string.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
4. When all your wrapping is done and you find yourself with odds and ends of wrapping, don’t waste them. Make yourself some origami stars and deck the halls. Once you’ve made a few, hang them with Wall-Safe Tape without leaving behind any January damage to your walls. Add in some fairy lights for good measure too. It is Christmas after all.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Happy Wrapping!
Instagram post 17846093473799197 This morning I’m heading off to a wreath making workshop at @wynyardhall because the wreath I already made, the Nordic Star that hangs on the door, the mistletoe wreath hanging beside my bed, the eight foot Christmas tree and the fir garland that winds its way up the staircase all felt too subtle. I was concerned people wouldn’t be aware it was Christmas.
Instagram post 17877832261484646 Public Service Announcement: @sainsburys have brought back their amazing £10 potted Christmas trees, they’re in store now.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Grab yourself a Bag For Life, secure it around the plastic pot with some string and add some wrapping paper. Fasten with ribbon or some more string and decorate. Easy peasy.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The potted tree I first bought two years ago still sits beside my front door, although in a slightly larger pot now!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Not an ad or sponsored, though I do work with (and do all my weekly shops in) Sainsburys. Not sure if that’s relevant, but there you go.
Instagram post 17889635860442263 This weekend the king of all cakes was baked. And now for several weeks of lashing it with brandy.

Instagram post 17931771439336754 It’s December, so anything festive goes. Even on a Monday. Last year’s monochrome wrapping is inadvertently just as relevant this year, the white pique paper I used is available again at the @thewhitecompany and until midnight is also has 20% off. Throw in some black craft paper, some mini baubles and a striped chord from @ikeauk and the job’s a good’un. Not an ad, just bringing festive cheer.
Instagram post 17873524147506016 Happy December everyone. Very rarely does the first Sunday of the December actually fall on the 1st, so if like me you’re a stickler for the first Sunday rule, 2019 is a very good year.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The tree is now up and in a new home this year. I only had to drag a bookcase, 10 years worth of magazines and several hundred books across the room to get it here, but we won’t dwell on that.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Last year I made the (tough) decision not to have a real tree and invested in this faux one from @thewhitecompany and I’m still really happy I did. It wasn’t exactly cheap but with just two year’s use I’ve equalled what I would have paid on real ones anyway. From here on out it’s all savings. 👌🏻 Looks just like the real thing if you ask me.
Instagram post 17882248255457755 My tree always goes up the first Sunday in December. It makes me ridiculously happy that this year that just happens to be Sunday 1st. It’s like I planned it.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The decorations have been freed from their 11 month prison beneath the bed, 500 lights have been painstakingly detangled with only minimal cursing and a fresh Decking The Halls playlist has been created. Now all that stands in the way of that festive explosion is today. A day in which I’ll rearrange the entire living room, probably twice, as I try to work out where exactly an eight foot tree can feasibly fit.
Instagram post 17901683194401094 The amazingly scented product of a morning spent in the @jomalonelondon Townhouse with the folk from @scarletandviolet is now hanging up. For now, it’s inside and nestled above the sideboard, filling the whole room with the scent of Christmas. It’s coming. Four weeks.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
When I’ve gotten over the loss (theft) of my rosemary plants from the front of the house it might well make it to the door. We’ll see if my nerves can handle that...
