DIY Linen Pin Board

I’ve been wanting a linen notice board for a while now, but inexplicably they seem to be £75 or more? One thing I do have in abundance is frames I’ve smashed the glass on, so I thought rather than waste the latest causality of my life, I’d turn it into a notice board.

I ordered some cheap cork tiles from eBay, glued them to the frame backing and then stretched over the natural linen I’d purchased from Etsy, stapling in place. Popped it back in the frame and there we go. Genuinely, that simple.

All in all about £25, not including the delightful walnut frame I managed to put my foot through the glass of. 🫠

Bay Window Curtain Pole - How To.

In what could be some of the most unaesthetically pleasing content I’ve ever made, I’ve tried to make a little guide on how I made my own curtain pole from components I bought from @ironmongerydirectuk . There was a lot of questions on this so hopefully this helps.

Buying curtain poles for bay windows is not easy. They are expensive and often the reviews of them are just a serious comments on how flimsy they are and hard to fit. So, I decided to do it myself.

Firstly, the curtain pole bits here (not including the curtain rings) came to £83 - much, much cheaper than anything I could find that was ready done.

Secondly, the brackets recquired here mean the curtains don’t close, but that didn’t really matter to me. The sheer middle curtains provide the privacy I needed really. If you did want them to close the way to do it would be to buy 4 narrower curtains, so a pair sit in between each of the brackets.

Everything I used was from the Rothley Baroque range in matte black, though they do come in brass too. The poles come in standard lengths and can be chopped down to the right length for you. I’d say order the bigger ones to allow for any mistakes - there’s very little difference in the price!

The genius part here is the little hinged sections which simply slot into the poles to connect them, flexing to accommodate what ever angle your bay is. It literally just makes the poles move like a hinge.

I then used 4 wall brackets in total, with the pole clicking into them and finished the poles off with a set of circular finials.

The outer curtains and the matt black curtain clips are from @dunelmuk - the curtains are called Jennings and they come in pencil pleat like this - or in eyelets - if that’s more your bag. The inner curtains are from @hmhome

Some of the decisions I made when I first moved in

Some of the decisions I made when I first moved into the flat, almost a year ago now, have taken quite a while to come back around and it’s only now I’m starting to feel like I know I made the right ones.

I had this idea that I wanted to be in the kitchen and look through to the whole living space and that I wanted that opening to be something pretty special. Based mostly on gut and without much of a plan for where it would go from there, I had the builder take out the door and the door frame from the kitchen and widen the opening.

Already it made a big difference; you can be in the kitchen whilst people are at the dining table and still feel connected, but as part of the kitchen renovation, I’ve decided to floor to ceiling tile, including the whole kitchen opening itself.

So you’ll look through a pretty amazing tiled frame basically, into the space beyond and then when you reverse it and look from the living space into the kitchen all you’ll see is floor to ceiling tiled wall - which I’ve decided to keep cabinet free up top.

I can’t wait to start work on the kitchen and show you what it’s going to be like.

AD / Big light energy just isn’t for me. I like my lighting soft, ambient and now I’m in my thirties, preferably not over head.

Over the past few weeks I was invited to give @canonuk ‘s latest portable device a try - the Canon Light and Speaker ML-A. Chargeable via a USB, it can be moved around your home and adapted to any situation - in fact, it has 6 different light settings and can be angled to focus on exactly what you need it to be.

It’s been designed to also include a Bluetooth speaker, so you can also have it play ambient sounds whilst you eat, entertain or simply get on with your work.

Come the summer months, I can assure you this will be out in the garden with me, soundtracking many, many a BBQ.
